Teaching, Curriculum Objectives and Implementation in the Department of Theatre Arts

  • Teaching Objective

In response to the Ministry of Culture’s guidelines for cultivating talent in the cultural and creative industries, the department emphasizes the vocational education goals of “cultivating talent for the workplace” and “focusing on workplace work.” By strengthening practical training, industry internships, and employment opportunities, the department aims to cultivate “proactive and innovative professionals in theatrical arts creation” and ” Practical and application-oriented professionals in theater technology and production.” The ultimate goal is to nurture foundational and mid-level professionals in drama and theater arts who meet industry demands.

To achieve these educational goals, three core competencies have been established:

  1. Creative abilities in drama performance, playwriting, and directing

  4. Scriptwriting and writing skills
  5. Theatrical directing and performance skills

The curriculum is designed around these competency indicators to cultivate students’ multiple intelligences and enhance the effectiveness of professional drama and performing arts education.

  • Curriculum Planning, Development, and Structure

The department’s curriculum consists of two main components: the university-wide “common curriculum” and the department’s “professional curriculum.” The university’s common curriculum is divided into two categories: compulsory and elective. These courses cultivate fundamental humanistic qualities necessary for future career development, encompassing knowledge and attitudes related to humanistic care, social service, artistic cultivation, language communication, life and information, law, politics, business, and workplace ethics. Students are also required to meet the university’s general education language proficiency standards before graduation, in order to enhance their employability and competitiveness. Professional courses emphasize a progressive, step-by-step approach. First-year courses focus on foundational skills training; second-year courses develop advanced professional skills; third-year courses emphasize professional integration and innovation; and fourth-year courses emphasize practical application through a core graduation project.
